It sounds like a problem that only technically savvy people will be able to deal with but in fact, it’s really simple to fix. The cause of this problem is often down to the increasing number of mods that you install for Minecraft. With each addition to your vanilla game, you will be asking more of your system when you boot up the game.

A vanilla version of the game will rarely ask for more than 2GB of memory allocation from your system, whereas a modded version of Minecraft will range from anything from 4GB to 6GB depending on the version you are running.

This is not a cause for panic though, most modern-day systems will have 8GB of RAM to work with and more gaming-focused PCs will have 16GB and upwards. So it is most likely that you will have the tools to fix your issue. All you need now is the know-how.

How to Allocate more RAM in Minecraft

However, this will vary depending on the launcher you use. So we have included steps for the most popular launchers for Minecraft.

So here are a number of quick guides on how to allocate more RAM for Minecraft.

Vanilla Launcher

Step one – Open your Minecraft Client and when you have access to this, select the installations tab at the top of the launcher.

Step two – Next, hover over the desired version of Minecraft you intend to use and click the ellipsis icon on the right.

Step three – Select ‘Edit’ from the drop-down menu and then select ‘more options’ on the bottom left of the window.

Step four – In the ‘JVM arguments’ field change Xmx1G  to Xmx#G replace the hashtag with the amount of RAM you’d like to allocate to Minecraft in GB. As mentioned 4-6GB is ideal.

Step five – Save the changes and launch Minecraft to check if the issues have been resolved.

Technic Launcher

Step one – Open the Technic launcher and select ‘launcher settings’ followed by ‘java settings.’

Step two – Within this area, you will see a drop-down menu that will allow you to change the allocated memory. Remember that 4-6GB is recommended.

Step three – Launch Minecraft to assess if the issue has been resolved.

ATL Launcher

Step one – Begin by opening the ATL Launcher and selecting the settings tab on the right-hand side of the window.

Step two – Once this is accessed, navigate to the ‘Java/Minecraft tab on the top of the window and select this.

Step three – From here you should see a drop-down menu relating to the amount of RAM you can allocate. This will be labeled ‘maximum memory/RAM’. Adjust this as needed and save your changes.

Step four – Launch Minecraft and assess if the issue has been resolved.

Twitch Launcher

Step one – Open the Twitch launcher and then select the ‘settings tab located on the bottom right-hand side of the window.

Step two – After this, Select the Minecraft tab and scroll down to the Java settings where you will see a slider labeled ‘allocated memory’.

Step three – Adjust the slider to the desired memory allocation you desire and save your changes.

Step four – Step four – Launch Minecraft and assess if the issue has been resolved.
