What’s New in Crash Bandicoot 4? Here you will find out it! Сrash Bandicoot is a renowned series of 3D platforms for the Playstation consoles. In the 90th, Crash was even considered as a mascot of the corporation. The game had pretty visuals, a light-hearted tone, and was family-friendly.
At the same time, it was pretty challenging for those looking to test their skills. Of course, you did not have to put on your best gaming headset for under $100 to get the maximum from the game. However, it tested your reaction, coordination, and execution of the game commands.
Unfortunately, after the three main games and a few spin-offs, the franchise of Crash Bandicoot vanished from the gaming radars. A silly bandicoot remained as a warm memory in our hearts.
However, in 2017 the series made a comeback. The game developers Toys for Bob remastered the original trilogy about Crash Bandicoot. The game looked even more polished, brighter, and goofy. Besides, it had all modern features like high resolution and port on all actual platforms.
Both critics and gamers received the Insane Trilogy warmly. That was a good indicator of the true return of the series. In 2020 the developers released Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, a full-fledged sequel for the beloved series.
It’s About Time
The game takes place in the same wacky universe as before. The main villains of the series, Doctor Neo Cortex, and Entropy escape their interdimensional prison to spread more chaos across the universe. Crash and the team have to stop them once again.
One of the most prominent features of Crash Bandicoot 4 is that the game does not parasitize the old ideas. The developers from Toys for Bob enhanced the existing formula and made an evolutionary step forward.
Crash Bandicoot is still the same 3D platformer. We move through picturesque levels, smash crates, collect bonuses and lives, and try to avoid numerous traps. However, the most fascinating part is in the details.
The previous games featured only one mask. Aku Aku defended Crash from one hit from an enemy. If the player managed to collect three masks in a row without getting hit, Crash became invincible for a short period. He could run through enemies directly.
What’s New in Crash Bandicoot 4
The fourth game takes the conception of the masks and expands it even further. Some masks alter the flow of time in the game, allowing you to squeeze between rapidly moving obstacles.
Another mask allows changing the gravity and making you run on the ceiling. The third mask helps you to dissolve certain objects from the level, and so on. The masks are not mere gimmicks; they alter the gameplay significantly.
Besides making the gameplay deeper, Crash Bandicoot 4 features playing for different characters. Crash himself would be the main star, but we will also play Coco Bandicoot, Tawna, Doctor Neo Cortex, and Dingodile.
Each of the characters has a unique ability that varies gameplay even more. For example, Tawna has a grappling hook that increases her mobility on a level. Dingodile is the slowest from the party, but he has a flamethrower that helps him to clear a dangerous path ahead.
And if you mastered the main game, there are more challenges for you to conquer. Time rushes, going on levels in the reversed order, etc. This game has a lot of content to play with.
Overall, Crash Bandicoot 4 takes what was good in the previous games, adds something new, and elevates the formula of 3D platformers to a new level. However, these are not the only enhancements to the game.
Playstation 5 Features
The game is available on many platforms, and Playstation 5 is one of them. However, it is not a simple port from other devices. The PS5 version of the game has several features that enhance your gaming experience even more.
4K resolution. 60 FPS framerate
Crash Bandicoot 4 has impressive visuals. The game utilizes the powers of the console to their maximum. You have an honest 4K resolution that works smoothly in 60 FPS. All animations look great, and you can appreciate the detailing of characters and the backgrounds of each level.
Short loading time
The PS5 SSD drive processes the game fast. There’s almost no time between loading levels or switching between menus. The game is optimized well on its own, but the PS5 version works almost as smoothly as a movie.
Haptic Feedback
One of the PS5 most prominent features, the haptic feedback, works just fine in Crash Bandicoot 4. You will feel the tension of the Tawna’s grappling hook stretching. Vibration from Dr. Cortex DNA guns goes through the whole gamepad.
Besides, jumps, box crashes, and explosions of different kinds have their unique tactile feedback. You literally can feel the game with your hands.
3D Audio
The game features 3D audio as well. Crash Bandicoot 4 consists of intricate levels full of dangerous traps. Each obstacle has its distinct sound, and the 3D sound feature makes it even more impressive.
The lighting buzzing, the flame burning, and cannons shot – all of these sound effects work on a new level with the 3D audio feature.
Playing Cards
If you are a passionate trophy hunter, the PS5 playing card feature is a nice addition to the game. Playing cards allow you to move quickly to the places in the game where the achievements can be unblocked.
Playing cards do not win the game for you. They spare you from the backtracking and give you the possibility to obtain the achievement without the unnecessary struggle.
Final Words
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is a wonderful game. It has pleasant aesthetics, challenging but fair gameplay, a lot of funny episodes, and catching flow. The PS5 version of the game takes all the good and makes it even better.
Whether you are a veteran of the series, who finished it numerous times, or a novice who just took the controller in your hands, it’s about time to play Crash Bandicoot 4.
